Matthew A. Benfield

Matthew Benfield was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 2004. He graduated from Mountain View High School in Stafford, Virginia, and 6 days later shipped to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. He completed recruit training and later attended Marine Combat Training in Camp Geiger, North Carolina, before checking into Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, where he was trained in his Military Occupational Specialty, 4500, Communication Strategy & Operations.


At the Defense Information School, Benfield was a part of the joint-branch Mass Communication Foundations Course (MCF). This 6 month course taught all areas of public affairs including photography, videography, graphic design, news writing, interviews, social media and more. Following his graduation of MCF, he attended a Broadcast Journalism course which taught operation of radio and music platforms for the Armed Forces Network (AFN). He then attended the Graphic Design course which taught in depth vector and raster production. He was awarded honor graduate upon completion. After 10 months on Fort Meade, Benfield was then sent to Hawaii.


Benfield is actively using his public affairs and multi-media abilities inside and out of the United States Marine Corps.
